Understanding Faith-Based RECOVERY

REPENTANCE - In a Biblical sense repentance means
"to change your mind." Included in its shades of
       meaning is genuine "sorrow."

EDUCATION - After repentance, a change of mind
about one's life, addictions, behavior ... then begins
the process of learning and relearning.

COMMITMENT - Success in any program of recovery
requires personal commitment. When one takes
recovery seriously, commitment comes to mean "no
turning back." It means "no exits and no doors." Quitting
       is not an option.

OBEDIENCE - With commitment comes a high level of
obedience to a structured program of recovery. The
. recovered" is not a loose cannon. In a faith-based
program there are high standards and a definite course
of action. The standards may be even higher and the
course of action more defined than other programs.
Obeying the rules of a faith-based recovery program is
not any different from similar recovery requirements.

VOLITION - In faith-based recovery programs there is
always the understanding that the process is voluntary.
Anything short of voluntary is merely cosmetic and has
       no roots.

ENDURANCE - In the Timothy passage it is called
patience." In other passages it is called both "patience
and endurance." Faith-based recovery like any other
recovery concept requires time. Time is sometimes
painful. That is why in the Bible the words are
       interchangeable and companions. Patience requires
      endurance and endurance requires patience.

RENEWAL - Faith-based recovery places primary
importance upon the "renewing of the mind." That even
means the destruction of addictive and emotional
strongholds that have been erected in the mind of the
       recovered.

YOURSELF - Faith-based recovery advocates believe
that the process is personal and that a person must
take responsibility for his/her own recovery.
